Steel billet prices continued to increase with fluctuations in domestic market during December
North China: Prices of steel billet Q235 150*150 increased by RMB230/t to RMB3,250/t VAT included ex-works by cash payment from RMB3,020/t in total in Tangshan, Hebei. Prices followed to increase by RMB140-280/t in Shanxi, Shandong and Liaoning due to supports from Hebei market . Participants were willing to purchase despite of chilly winter in North China . In addition, steel billet prices were expected to go up further in North China because of positive news in this sector.
South China: Hebei steel billet market significantly influenced domestic market as prices of low-alloyed steel billet 20MnSi increased by RMB50-180/t in Jiangsu, Fujian and Yunnan as prices of steel billet Q235 150*150 picked up in Tangshan. Figures of low-alloyed steel billet 20MnSi followed to go up to RMB3,450/t VAT included ex-works by cash payment from RMB3,270/t in Jiangsu . Prices responded rapidly in local market as the largest spiral rebar producer, Shasteel lifted quotations sharply. Meanwhile, steel billet prices also rose by RMB100/t as futures prices of spiral rebar increased in Fujian .
. Steel billet prices rose mainly because production costs went up as iron ore prices picked up significantly especially for imported resource. Prices of steel billet Q235 150*150 increased by RMB100-280/t in total this month in North China . Generally speaking, buying activity remained flat as more participants planned to replenish inventories at the year-end . Hence, buying activity stayed flat despite of unfavorable procurements from end users.
