Overview
Looking back on 2022, it was a year marked by complexityand turbulence at home and abroad. Market confidence in China was hit hard byslower growth in its manufacturing and real estate sectors amid Covid waves,while the world economy was headed for a downturn fueled by a series of eventsincluding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, U.S. Fed's aggressive interest ratehikes and the energy crunch in Europe. Despite all these challenges, the annualaverage prices for antimony products in 2022 remained at their highest levelsin the past ten years. The rapid rise in antimony consumption from photovoltaicindustry was offset by record low operating rates of antimony producers inChina, while antimony concentrate imports kept declining for the fifthconsecutive year and antimony trioxide exports also showed signs of decreasing,which made overseas antimony ingot increasingly more cost-competitive.
As the new year dawned, Chinese government made timelyand science-based adjustments to its Covid response policies. After athree-year fight against the pandemic, will China's end market see an effectiverecovery in 2023? How will antimony prices trend? Will the declining imports ofraw material slow down? First established in 2012, the Antimony Forum hostedby Asian Metal is dedicated to become a global forum summit event for antimonyindustry.
