In December, Chinese tantalum market generally showing upward trend, while the niobium market generally shows downwards trend. Although the tantalum concentrate import prices do not incline continuously, the tagged materials prices keep firm with the tight supply. International traders are still unwilling to sell. Demand from the electronic product industry keeps dim, so domestic plants are not in a rush to place orders. However, from middle December, demand of metallurgical grade tantalum oxide and tantalum powder becomes better, with inquiries and deals increasing. Influenced by the varying of tantalum raw materials, prices of tantalum products vary greatly.
Chinese niobium market generally goes down, with the niobium concentrate prices staying at USD18/lb CIF China. And metallurgical grade niobium oxide and niobium metal prices go down with dim demand. According to insiders, the metallurgical grade niobium oxide prices in U.S. are just USD40/kg, while in Chinese market, the lowest price is USD50/kg FOB China. Producers note that most of them have large amount of stock.
