Chinese market participants were in the National Day holiday during the first week of October, and European cobalt market kept weak with low demand and most consumers bought raw materials through long-term contracts, while users were inactive in making procurement in spot market, which could not support cobalt price, leading to decreasing price from early October. When Chinese participants came back to cobalt market, finding out that European cobalt price go down, they held little confidence in cobalt market. Producers reduced price, while most consumers tried to cut inventory when economic outlook was bleak.
