Though Chinese cobalt concentrates import decreased from January to April compared with the same period of last year, supply was still ample. In general, cobalt market was on the downward tendency in May. May was the busy time for lithium battery industry and demand for cobalt market from lithium battery industry increased, especially from South Korean lithium battery market. However, demand from cemented carbide, ceramic enamel, catalyst and magnet industries kept slow. Cemented carbide producers reported that demand for cemented carbide decreased by about 40-50% in May compared with last May.
