Owing to the constant softness of demand, the price of Germanium fell further. However, most producers were not in a rush to sell at lower prices with the approaching Chinese New Year holiday, so the price of germanium metal slightly went down. Downstream demand for germanium metal remained quiet and the price slid down largely in domestic and overseas markets due to European debt crisis and US economic downturn. It is reported that downstream demand for germanium metal has shrunk by about 1/3. Insiders believed that the current situation will be hard to improve, expecting another price drop of the metal in February.
