The price of pig iron increased in August. The reasons are as follows: Firstly, the cost rises. The price of iron ore continues to go up and that of coke keeps firm. The cost of many mills in north China keeps at RMB3,500/t and that in south China stays at RMB3,100/t, up by RMB100/t compared with that of last month respectively. Secondly, the demand is strong in the market. As the Central government invests a lot of funds to start projects such as security houses, so the demand of construction steel is strong.
