Chinese Tungsten market rebounded in the beginning of July after two-months sliding. It appeared to be in tight supply again, especially for tungsten concentrate and APT. The prices for raw materials rose fast and downstream products prices adjusted accordingly. Market participants look forward toward the future market and some suppliers hold back from selling. The power usage in July doubled compared to the same period last year, and the Chinese Southern Power Grid alarmed for power shortage. Tungsten smelting was affected by limited power supply.
July and August is the traditional holiday season in Europe. Many companies arrange annual holidays in the two months, so demand of tungsten decreased. Although tungsten prices rose in China, European spot market hovered at lower level due to thin trade.
