In early July, because some magnesium ingot plants began to stop their production for equipment maintenance, the supply tightened and magnesium ingot prices rebounded by RMB150/t (USD22/t). Most buyers purchased as scheduled. In the following days, as movements slowed down and suppliers could accept price cuts from buyers, the prices edged down by RMB200/t (USD29/t) up till middle of July. From middle to late July, because more plants stopped their production for equipment maintenance for price inversion, the supply of magnesium ingot tightened. Additionally, more suppliers increased their quotations supported by high production cost and stable purchase, the mainstream magnesium ingot prices increased by RMB300/t (USD44/t) accordingly.
In early July, magnesium powder prices climbed by about RMB150/t (USD22/t) in tandem with the rise in magnesium ingot values. However, due to tepid demand, spot market activity remained sluggish, and most buyers restricted their purchases to the bare minimum. Most producers operated at reduced capacity. In the days that followed, prices eased slightly, pressured by softening ingot costs and cautious buying from steel mills and chemical plants. During the second half of July, another uptick in magnesium ingot quotes pushed mainstream magnesium powder prices higher by around RMB200/t (USD29/t). Nonetheless, persistent weakness in downstream demand and a gloomy outlook among purchasers kept trading thin, with Chinese magnesium powder market seeing few active deals.
At the beginning of July, Chinese magnesium alloy AZ91D prices rose by approximately RMB150/t (USD22/t), driven by the uptick in magnesium ingot values. However, subdued demand from die?casting plants and the 3C electronics sector kept the overall market quiet. In the days that followed, as ingot prices softened and buyers adopted a more cautious stance, magnesium alloy quotes edged lower and spot trading remained thin. During the latter half of July, renewed strength in upstream magnesium ingot prices pushed mainstream alloy offers modestly higher. Yet persistent weak turnover and swollen inventories among suppliers continued to weigh on the market, leaving most alloy producers in a difficult position.
In early July, export prices rose USD20/t on domestic gains, with buyers cautious. Magnesium ingot export prices then fell USD30/t amid weak deals and softening domestic values. In late July, tight supply and domestic hikes pushed prices up USD40/t, but demand remained sluggish.
