Wire rod and rebar prices in major markets of China saw different trends in August. Prices in North China and East China went down during the month on weak demand and the price decrease in futures market, while those in South China moved up mainly supported by high prices of steel mills. In addition, Chinese export prices of wire rod and rebar dropped during the month because of the soft demand from overseas customers.
In the international market, prices of wire rod and rebar in Malaysia and Vietnam decreased during the month because of the weak demand from downstream industries, while those in India and Thailand went up mainly supported by high prices of steel mills.
