Market Highlights
Prices of antimony products kept increasing in both the Chinese and overseas markets in January 2023. The supply of antimony ingot was tight in the Chinese spot market during the month against the backdrops that the Spring Festival holiday was approaching in December 2022 when the COVID-19 spread rapidly . In view of limited supply of raw material, domestic antimony product suppliers intended to hold back from selling; some consumers purchased in small quantities to replenish stocks with limited deals in the market . The domestic antimony product market saw prevailing wait-and-see sentiments owing to both tight supply and firm prices of raw material. Before the Spring Festival holiday in January 2023, antimony concentrate prices went up to RMB68,000/t (USD9,896/t) EXW D/P; antimony ingot 99.85%min prices increased to RMB80,000/t (USD11,642/t); antimony trioxide 99.8%min prices rose to RMB70,000/t (USD10,187/t) delivered D/A 30 days and ethylene glycol antimony prices increased to RMB58,000/t (USD8,440/t) delivered D/A 60 days . Being bullish about the market outlook, antimony product producers intended to hold back from selling in January 2023; some middlemen started refilling stocks in light of limited stocks for both finished product and raw material; consumers started making replenishments for the year-end . All these factors supported antimony product prices to go up in China during January 2023 . The international antimony product market ran relatively slowly in January 2023 . Although demand didn't pick up obviously, export prices of antimony products moved upwards owing to substantial appreciation of RMB . In order to avoid risks, Chinese exporters raised their export quotations, which stimulated export prices of Chinese antimony ingot 99 . 65%min and antimony trioxide 99.5%min to rise to USD12,800/t and USD10,800/t FOB China respectively . Some antimony ingot 99.65%min suppliers in the international market could conclude deals at USD12,600-12,900/t with limited in the market overall . International suppliers kept their quotations firm due to tight supply in the spot market overall, but the demand trend in the international market was still pessimistic as consumers still had strong intention to wait on the sidelines in spite of small volumes of purchases from middlemen.
