1. Market Highlights
Chinese antimony market was sluggish in August 2022 amid a stalemate: mainstream prices went down slowly owing to soft demand in the terminal market and the slack season, but didn't drop sharply as suppliers just made small concessions in prices to boost sales against the backdrop of tight supply of raw material. Specifically speaking, Chinese antimony concentrate suppliers tried to keep their prices firm in August as the supply of antimony concentrate was still tight in the domestic spot market caused by the facts that the small volume of imported antimony ore from Russia still couldn't meet China's demand for the raw material and the output of Chinese miners was limited. Due to continuously low operating rates of antimony ingot producers and firm prices of antimony concentrate, mainstream prices of antimony ingot kept firm at around RMB79,000/t (USD11,331/t), but antimony trioxide producers were reluctant to purchase antimony ingot owing to the lack of orders of their own product. Mainstream prices of antimony trioxide went down slightly in August and declined to RMB68,000/t (USD9,751/t) EXW D/P at the end of the month as some suppliers had to make small concessions in prices to win orders against the backdrops of continuously insufficient orders and inactive deals in the market; meanwhile, suppliers had to take a cautious attitude in cutting their prices supported by firm prices of antimony ingot although most downstream consumers just waited on the sidelines and delayed their purchasing plans to mid-September. Chinese ethylene glycol antimony suppliers slightly cut their prices in August to boost sales owing to inactive deals in the market, but there was limited room for prices of the material to decline supported by firm prices of raw material; mainstream prices of Chinese ethylene glycol antimony 57%min basically stabilized at RMB57,000-58,000/t (USD8,174-8,317/t) during the month. China's antimony export market didn't perform well in August and export prices of antimony product kept declining in late August owing to fluctuated exchange rate of USD with export prices of antimony ingot and antimony trioxide dropping to USD12,400/t CIF Europe and around USD10,300/t respectively . Overseas consumers were reluctant to refill stocks during the summer break, while the spot supply was tight on a whole . Generally speaking, China's export market of antimony saw soft demand, limited deals and slight decline of prices during August.
