Prices of HRC and steel plate fluctuated frequently and narrowly during the month. The high prices of raw materials stimulated traders to raise prices. Besides, the overall market inventory remained relatively low. However, the low activities in the market under the pandemic control weakened market participants' confidence in the market prospect to some degree. Meanwhile, the demand from downstream industries remained insufficient. Therefore, prices did not witness obvious change. Leading producers such as Baowu Group, HBIS, Ansteel and Shougang Group all maintained list prices for May production.
In the meantime, prices of HRC and steel plate ran on different trends in overseas during the month. The decreasing prices in China heightened overseas buyers' cautious attitudes. Reporting poor sales performance, steel mills in other countries decreased prices to attract customers.
