1. Definition, classification, distribution and application
1.1 Definition
Nickel (Ni), a silver-white metal, is easy to be oxidized by air and forms a layer of grey oxide film on the surface, so the nickel we see is usually grey white. Its density is 8.9g/cm3. The melting and boiling points of nickel are 1455°C, 2730°F). Nickel is hard, malleable, and ductile and can be highly polished. It is rich in the crust, usually existing in the form of nickel silicate ore or sulfur, arsenic and nickel compounds.
