1. Market Highlights
Supported by increased raw materials' prices and some demand recovery, wire rod and rebar prices in Chinese leading markets soared sharply in the first three weeks of December. However, they began to fall back in late after touching the peak. Wire rod and rebar prices in major regions moved up by around RMB200/t (USD31/t) and RMB400/t (USD62/t) respectively in the month. Steel mills became less active in production due to reduced profit but they tried to hike export prices further this month.
In the international market, wire rod and rebar prices in Malaysia and India rose sharply on tight supply of raw materials and increased production cost.
