1. Market Highlights
Prices of section steel and steel pipe went up in major Chinese domestic markets during the month. The sales performance showed signs of recovering in the first half of the month following the upward price trend, but it turned to unsatisfactory again late this month with the demand from downstream industries shrinking. Boosted by the considerable profits, steel mills produced actively and the supply kept rising during the month. However, traders just supplemented inventories according to material shortage, complaining the rising purchasing costs but the poor sales performance. End users only purchased according to orders for final products and had no intention to build stocks, with wait-and-see attitudes. Boosted by the continuous and sharp prices increase of raw materials, both producers and traders moved up prices actively.
