1. Market Highlights
Discouraged by the falling prices of raw materials, prices of wire rod and rebar in major Chinese leading markets went down this month. For higher stocks, prices of rebar declined more than those of wire rod did during the same time. Most traders and downstream customers did not predict a price rise in the first half of October and became reluctant to hold stocks before the long holiday for the National Day.
In the international market, wire rod and rebar prices in Malaysia and India showed some signs of moving up further this month due to increasing production cost. However, the demand from downstream industries did not grow obviously. Chinese steel mills continued to raise wire rod and rebar export prices this month but the range remained very limited.
