1. Market Highlights
Stocks in Chinese leading markets were reduced slowly in April with high operation rate in production from steel mills. Even though the demand recovered gradually, there were not many buying activities in the market. As a consequence, prices of wire rod and rebar weakened in major markets this month. What was worse, the demand from overseas market failed to grow this month, which exerted pressure for domestic sales. On considerable profit, steel mills kept active in long steel production especially that for rebar. However, traders were cautious about building stocks due to tight cash flow.
In the international market, wire rod and rebar prices in Malaysia and India showed very slight decrease and there were few buying or selling activities under the lock down. Chinese steel mills kept lowering wire rod and rebar export prices on sluggish demand from overseas market.
