1. Market Highlights
Prices for HRC and steel plate went down sharply by RMB200-400/t (USD29-58/t) during the month. The overall market performance remained unsatisfactory. Dragged by the coronavirus outbreak, logistics and transportation were almost halted in the first two weeks of the month, and they improved a little in the last two weeks of the month. Major producers adopted different attitudes towards the market prospect. Baowu Group, HBIS and Shougang Steel maintained HRC list prices for March production flat, while Bengang Steel and Ansteel moved down prices by around RMB400/t (USD58/t). Facing increased capital and stock pressures, traders were eager to conclude deals to withdraw capitals. Most participants showed little confidence in the market prospect dragged by the coronavirus.
