1. Market Highlights
Imported manganese ore prices were stable in China in the first half month of August as downstream buyers purchased actively and the cost was high, but then they went down with buyers showing increasingly intention to force down prices and suppliers reducing offers for sales; however, the prices just edged down due to high cost.
Silicomanganese prices trended down on the whole this month. In early August, major steel mills finished bids while most suppliers mainly made shipments for contracts, leaving few spot deals. In late August, with manganese ore prices decreasing, many suppliers cut prices further to gain more orders, so the prices continued edging down by the end of the month.
In August, HC ferromanganese prices were stable on the whole. Before late this month, HC ferromanganese plants mainly made delivery for contracts signed with steel mills early this month, leaving prices stable. But since late August, due to more spot supply and decreasing manganese ore prices, HC ferromanganese prices edged down.
In the first half of August, some MC ferromanganese plants halted or cut production due to thin profit while those which maintained production mainly made shipments for orders, so the prices were stable, but in the latter half of August, with spot supply increasing and prices for raw materials silicomanganese and manganese ore decreasing, buyers had more intention to force down prices, leading to a sharp decrease in MC ferromanganese prices.
