1. Market Highlights
The domestic steel plate market performance in August was worse than that in July, following the sharp price drop. The downstream demand shrank obviously with the deterioration of the trade war between America and China as well as the gloomy domestic economy. Besides, end users were cautious about placing orders and refused to build large inventories seeing the downward price trend, with wait-and-see attitudes. Being pessimistic about the market prospect, traders were inactive in replenishing inventories, for fear of a further price decline. In the meantime, prices for steel plate also went down in other Asian markets during the month dragged by the insufficient downstream demand. Insiders foresee a slight price decrease for steel plate in September.
