1 Market Highlights
In June, Pingyuan, Yangquan and Pinglu in Shanxi strengthened bauxite mining supervision, and the market supply was tight, leading to an increase of bauxite in Henan and Shanxi this month. Meanwhile, affected by the heavy rainfall, the bauxite transportation in Guizhou was hindered and stocks of alumina plants reduced, resulting in firm bauxite prices.
In order to ensure the safety of alumina production, some alumina plants in Shanxi and Henan continued to take precautions and carried out low-temperature transformation of alumina production line to meet the technical requirements of imported bauxite.
Bauxite stockpiles at some alumina plants in Shandong Province were overstocked due to substantial increases in bauxite supply in Guinea, Australia and Indonesia in the past few months. In June, some alumina factories reduced the import of bauxite, the market demand shrank, and the price of imported bauxite fell under pressure.
With the continuous climbing up of fluorspar price and the decreasing of aluminum fluoride stocks in China, prices for aluminum fluoride in China increased with fluctuation.
Alumina prices declined sharply this month due to the supply increase. Suppliers lowered their prices to sell and most primary aluminum plants in downstream market took a firm wait-and-see attitude and purchased with caution . As a result, the market was quiet.
Alumina prices slumped, so the production cost of primary aluminum moved down accordingly; prices for primary aluminum dropped with fluctuation this month, the downstream consumption market entered the off-season and the de-stocking slowed down.
In June, the demand in automobile industry continued to be weak, die-casting plants' orders reduced significantly and the inventory of secondary aluminum alloy producers increased further, leading to fierce price competition. In addition, imported aluminum alloy ingot ADC12 entered Chinese market with low prices, which aggravated the decline of the price for the material in China.
