Market Highlights
Entering June, the Chinese lithium salt market was stepping into the off season in consumption and prices moved down. Affected by decreasing subsidies on new energy vehicles, cathode material producers cut their outputs and showed notably shrinking demand for raw material battery grade lithium carbonate, leading to dropping prices for the material . Compared with dropping prices for battery grade lithium carbonate, price decreases for industrial grade lithium carbonate happened usually at a later time . This month, affected by dropping prices for battery grade lithium carbonate, consumers kept cutting their purchasing prices for industrial grade lithium carbonate, leading to dropping prices for the material . As for lithium hydroxide, as the high-nickel LNCMO market moved ahead not as well as expected and also as most downstream consumers held a wait-and-see attitude toward future lithium hydroxide price trend, inactive in purchasing the material, lithium hydroxide prices continued to go down in June . As for lithium metal, its downstream demand was weak and producers cut their selling prices further.
Regarding the battery material market, since the interim period for 2019 subsidy policy on new energy vehicles expired on June 25, the power car market saw limited transactions and battery producers were inactive in purchasing LNCMO. Further affected by low prices for cobalt sulfate, LNCMO prices moved down . Since early June, the 3C market was stepping into the traditional off season in consumption and accordingly LCO producers received fewer orders . With prices for raw material cobalt tetroxide going down continuously, LCO prices moved down.
