1. Market Highlights
The transaction prices for silicomanganese continued to fall in April. Firstly, the profits of downstream steel mills decreased from last year. The operating rate was insufficient, and the demand for silicomanganese was weak. At the same time, the new capacity of silicomanganese in major producing areas was released one after another, so the supply of silicomanganese tended to rise and the transactions in spot market were frustrated. As a result, the prices continued to fall. Secondly, the stock of raw material manganese ore was high, and the price for manganese ore fell by nearly RMB4/dmtu (USD0.58/dmtu). The cost of silicomanganese tended to fall, so consumers would decrease the prices in a larger scale.
In April, Chinese manganese ore stocks at Tianjin Port and Qinzhou Port were getting higher and higher. At the same time, downstream consumers only restocked on rigid demand with limited purchases for spot material. Traders continued to reduce their quotations in order to facilitate transactions.
