1. Market Highlights
With the demand from downstream industries recovering and prices of raw materials keeping going up in April, prices of wire rod and rebar in Chinese leading markets recorded a markup of around RMB150/t (USD22/t) this month. Steel mills were active in producing wire rod and rebar on relatively high profit and the output went up slightly. In the international market, prices of wire rod and rebar in many Asian countries such as Malaysia moved up and down but not show big changes on relatively steady relationship between demand and supply. As the demand for wire rod and rebar is likely to weaken in May, when there will be more rainy and hot days in southern parts of China, insiders think prices of wire rod and rebar in Chinese market will decline in May when the supply will go on being sufficient.
