1. Market Highlights
Prices for HRC soared in major Chinese domestic markets early this month, and kept fluctuating in the following three weeks of the month, but the general trend was upward. Leading producers raised HRC EXW prices for May production by about RMB100/t (USD15/t) during the month, and traders were eager to move up prices boosted by higher purchasing costs. Besides, prices for raw materials rose spirally. In the meantime, the sales performance showed signs of improving in the first three weeks of the month since end users were active in purchasing seeing the upward price trend, but it turned to be unsatisfactory again in the last week of the month following the decreasing price signal. Considering most mills are producing actively boosted by considerable profits and the supply will be increased, insiders think that it is hard for the price of HRC to go up further in May.
