1. Market Highlights
Prices for raw materials of silicon metal have been falling since March, and those for electrode dropped significantly. In face of the weak demand, low grade silicon metal producers firstly cut prices to facilitate transactions. After the NPC and CPPCC in mid-March, downstream consumers all purchased in advance to get the VAT tax bills for March, leading to a significant increase in domestic trading volume. Except silicon metal 5-5-3, prices for other kinds of silicon metals only dropped slightly due to limited output. But silicon metal 5-5-3 suppliers can lower the price by more than 3%, which was the result of their promotion. Due to the weak market, prices for all kinds of silicon metal still showed no signs of stopping falling at the end of March. In terms of the export market, Japanese and Indian consumers have prepared their stocks in advance because of the annual financial settlement in March. Therefore, the exports shrank significantly in the month. At the same time, as domestic silicon metal prices continued to fall, overseas consumers didn't dare to place orders hastily, mainly waiting on the sidelines.
