Chinese magnesia market was very quiet this week with prices of all varieties of magnesia down continuously. In particular, prices for high grade magnesia declined substantially. Most domestic magnesia producers held large volumes of stocks, but prices and quality of magnesia from different producers were much different as they could bear different degrees of pressure. As magnesia couldn't sell well, most magnesia producers planned to cut production and some of them even halted production, stimulating the demand and prices for magnesite to decline.
China's export market for magnesia merely improved slowly in March. Export prices of different varieties of Chinese magnesia declined to different degrees with those of high grade magnesia down most. Expecting that prices of magnesia in China would go down, most overseas customers took a cautious attitude towards refilling stocks. In addition, the overseas magnesia producers' outputs increased continuously and their products continued to exerted pressure on Chinese magnesia market by competitive prices.
