1. Market Highlights
In February, affected by China's Spring Festival holiday, China's titanium market was sluggish on the whole. As for upstream raw materials, prices for ilmenite edged up after the holiday, but transactions were still sluggish; prices for high titanium slag edged down and downstream consumers' demand weakened; prices for titanium tetrachloride edged down and the supply decreased affected by the environmental protection; prices for titanium sponge decreased slightly, and downstream processed products consumers bore great inventory pressure and waited on the sidelines; prices for titanium mill products edged down and transactions were still limited.
During the holiday, the logistics in most regions stopped and transactions for titanium dioxide were limited. Although Chinese titanium dioxide suppliers have raised prices successively since mid-February, downstream demand was weak as downstream consumers' operating rates were limited and they waited on the sidelines . Therefore, most transaction prices for titanium dioxide were unchanged compared with those before the holiday; however, orders that were concluded at low prices decreased.
With respect to the ferrotitanium market, prices for Chinese high grade ferrotitanium edged down and those for the low grade material dropped further with fierce competition in the market. In late February, prices for low grade ferrotitanium edged up; prices for European ferrotitanium edged down with slack transactions; while export prices for Russian high grade ferrotitanium edged up and transactions recovered.
