In February, black silicon carbide producers in main production areas Gansu and Ningxia marked their offers up notably, but downstream clients could not accept, so the market saw quotations but no deals. In mid-January, smelters in Kuangou Industrial Park in Tianzhu city, Gansu province, suspended production, so downstream buyers were more active in building stocks in January. In February, producers mostly held low stocks, resulting in remarkable rise in offers for black silicon carbide. However, downstream consumers were reluctant to accept the increased quotations. As a result, the market fell into a stalemate.
In the international market, buyers in Europe and America mostly finished replenishment in December 2018, and they continued to consume stocks and waited on the sidelines. Only a few clients from Japan and South Korea placed orders in February and most buyers in the two countries made purchases cautiously as silicon carbide priced soared in the Chinese domestic market.
