1 Market Highlight
Affected by the Spring Festival in February, Chinese bauxite transactions were limited this month. Alumina plants saw huge bauxite stocks after the Festival and the bauxite prices slipped under pressure.
Indonesia and Australia were in the rainy season in February, supplying less bauxite. The rebounded freight pushed bauxite prices up to some extent.
During February, alumina transactions were limited and prices went down. Most primary aluminum plants held enough alumina stocks and had little intention to purchase.
Primary aluminum prices edged up in February. Chinese primary aluminum plants switched from aluminum liquid supply to aluminum ingot production while most downstream consumers halted production, leading to a rise in aluminum ingot stocks.
In February, prices for Chinese aluminum alloy ingot ADC12 were stable and stood at RMB14,000-14,200/t (USD2,085-2,115/t) EXW D/P late this month. Die-casting plants had less demand for the material, leaving sporadic transactions.
