As participants retreated from the market for the Spring Festival (5 February) in late January and did not return until late February, the domestic steel pipe market performed inactively during the month, though prices rose slightly in some regions boosted by significant price increases of raw materials. Adopting cautiously optimistic attitudes towards the market prospect, traders only supplemented inventories according to material shortage rather than in large quantities. In the meantime, end users were inactive in placing large orders in view of frequent price fluctuations. Prices for steel pipe rose obviously in other Asian markets boosted by worldwide price increases of raw materials. Considering the overall market inventory runs on a low level, Insiders forecast a nationwide price rise for steel pipe in March.
