1. Market Highlights
Prices for steel plate rose in major Chinese domestic markets after the Spring Festival (4-11 February), mainly boosted by significant price increases of raw materials as well as the overall low stockpile. However, purchasing activities in the market failed to improve. On the one hand, the rigid demand shrank as downstream projects were halted due to the Spring Festival holiday, while on the other hand, frequent price changes heightened end users' cautious attitudes and they were inactive in placing large orders. As traders were cautious about supplement inventories, the overall market inventory stayed on a low level. In the meantime, prices for steel plate either remained firm or went up slightly in other Asian markets. Insiders foresee a slight price increase next month.
