Prices for steel pipe failed to go up nationwide during the month dragged by the weak downstream demand, despite the strong upward price trend of raw materials. Both traders and customers adopted cautiously optimistic attitudes towards the market outlook and were inactive in supplementing inventories. Reporting insufficient orders but rising production costs, mills were inactive in producing. In the meantime, prices for steel pipe decreased in other Asian markets. Considering the overall market inventory runs on a low level, insiders think that the price for steel pipe is likely to go up slightly in February, despite the slow market.
