Prices of CRC and HGI coil in Chinese leading markets did not show big changes in January, with the approaching of the Chinese New Year holiday (2-10 February). Downstream consumers purchased materials according to urgent needs and traders showed little optimism for the market outlook after the holiday and were reluctant to build many stocks before holiday. Steel mills held cautiously optimistic attitudes towards the coming market, expecting increasing demand from downstream industries. In the international market, China's export prices for CRC and HGI coil showed signs of moving up and those in other Asian countries like Vietnam followed. As prices of raw materials such as iron ore rebounded firmly before the Chinese New Year holiday, steel mills will take this chance to lift CRC and HGI coil prices even though it will take some time for the demand to strengthen after the holiday. Taking all factors into consideration, insiders predict that prices of CRC and HGI coil will increase slightly in February.
