1. Market Highlights
Generally, HC ferrochrome prices in January edged down. Leading mills announced their tender prices of HC ferrochrome for January with a decline of RMB50/t (USD7.4/t) and spot prices went down slightly accordingly . However, supported by electricity restriction in Inner Mongolia, the prices of ferrochrome stood steady in the rest of the month . Entering the second half of January, due to the forthcoming Chinese Spring Festival holiday, the market witnessed extremely low liquidity and the prices kept unchanged roughly.
LC ferrochrome prices declined at the beginning this month due to continuously weak demand from the steel mills but aggressive selling by the year end.
European ferrochrome prices continued to decrease on low liquidity in early January but nudged up with relatively increasing demand. While, American ferrochrome market decreased further amid weak demand.
Chrome ore prices at Chinese ports remained roughly stable this month. Most traders showed willingness to increase their offers at the beginning this month, but as most smelters finished restocking, higher prices were not accepted . Entering the second half, as the Spring Festival holiday approached, most smelters halted purchase and most chrome ore traders at Chinese ports also showed less interest to lower down their offers to encourage sales . The prices stayed stable this month.
