1. Market Highlights
Chinese wire rod and rebar markets cooled down in January with the approaching of the Chinese New Year. Prices in North China and East China did not show big changes in the month while those in South China fell gradually amid shrinking demand from downstream industries. In the international market, prices of wire rod and rebar in many Asian countries especially those in Malaysia went down gradually on weak demand from downstream industries. As prices of iron ore fines, raw material for steels, went up firmly before the Chinese New Year, insiders predict that prices of wire rod and rebar in Chinese market will see an upward trend in February.
