1. Market Highlights
In January, the international molybdenum market saw slightly stronger demand. Molybdenum prices went up in the second half of January, but showed a downtrend during the entire month. With the coming of the Spring Festival holiday, molybdenum concentrate prices stopped declining from mid-January as ferromolybdenum producers were active in rebuilding raw material stocks. Some mines even concluded deals at prices that were much higher than market prices. Thus, mainstream prices for molybdenum concentrate went up notably. Ferromolybdenum producers cut output or halted production successively and they kept prices firm at RMB110,000/t (USD27.25/kg Mo), which was the production cost. From mid-January, downstream molybdenum chemical and deep-processing producers followed suit to raise prices. Prices for molybdenum products showed a steady uptrend before the Spring Festival holiday.
