1 Monthly Highlights
From late December, some bauxite mines in Shanxi and Henan resumed production, offering more supply. As a result, Chinese origin bauxite prices declined . Meanwhile, the quickly decreasing alumina prices weighed on bauxite prices.
From late December, Chinese aluminum fluoride prices began to retreat. Some aluminum fluoride producers plan to halt production for maintenance in late January.
Affected by heavy rain in December, Indonesian bauxite supply was tight and the exports decreased.
Some primary aluminum plants in Northwest China and Henan cut production last month and had less demand. Aluminum prices were soft, making alumina prices went on decreasing this month . Most primary aluminum plants still had no intention to restock even though the Spring Festival is coming as they saw financial strain and losses this year.
In December, some downstream processing plants cut operating rate due to the slack season and downstream demand was poorer. Chinese aluminum ingot stocks began to edge up late this month and primary aluminum prices fluctuate down this month.
Mainstream transaction prices for Chinese aluminum alloy ingot ADC12 stood at RMB14,100-14,300/t (USD2,089-2,117/t) EXW D/P on 29 December, down by RMB200/t (USD29.61/t) from 30 November . Downstream die-casting plants showed no willingness to restock, leaving sparse transactions.
