1. Market Highlights
As manganese mines were completely shut down in early December and spot price for manganese flake decreased to RMB12,500/t (USD1,851/t) EXW D/P in late November, which was lower or close to production cost of some manganese producers, upstream suppliers raised offers substantially and intentionally with tight supply of ore in Manganese Triangle and Guangxi. Spot prices for manganese flake 99.7%min went up to RMB13,400-13,600/t (USD1,984-2,014/t) in mid-December, an increase of RMB900/t (USD133/t) compared with RMB12,500-12,700/t (USD1,851-1,880/t) in early December. Some deals were closed at prices as high as RMB13,800-14,000/t (USD2,043-2,073/t). POSCO invited January's bids for manganese flake in mid-December and then prices for manganese flake 99.7%min went down in Chinese market. In addition, some manganese producers resumed production successively after halting production for a period. Thus, prices edged down to RMB12,800-13,000/t (USD1,895-1,925/t) within one week. During the last week before the New Year's Day, Chinese steel mills invited bids one after another and spot prices for manganese flake edged up by RMB300/t (USD44.42/t) to RMB13,100-13,300/t (USD1,940-1,969/t), which remained unchanged before the end of December.
Generally speaking, prices for manganese flake 99.7%min fluctuated in December. Suppliers raised offers intentionally and mainly executed concluded orders. The export market saw stable transactions. Mainstream transaction prices for Chinese manganese flake 99.7%min went up by RMB600/t (USD88.84/t) in December.
