1. Market Highlights
After the sharp price drop in November, prices of wire rod and rebar in Chinese leading markets did not show big changes in December. Even though steel mills in some regions were asked to restrict production for the environmental protection inspection, the supply was not reduced obviously and prices failed to be pulled up notably. In addition, with the demand shrinking in northern parts of China in winter, materials warmed into southern parts of China, pushing prices down there. In the international market, export prices of wire rod and rebar from China fell slightly and those in Asian countries followed suit again. As the long holiday for Chinese New Year is approaching, insiders predict that prices of wire rod and rebar in Chinese market will come down amid shrinking demand from building sites.
