Chinese silicomanganese market moved stably this month, and the price showed insignificant change. Early this month, silicomanganese market saw a sluggish movement. After steel mills finished purchasing silicomanganese for Oct, there were rare transactions on the spot market, and the price dropped a little by RMB150/t (USD21.57/t) from RMB8,500-8,700/t (USD1,223-1,251/t) to RMB8,350-8,550/t (USD1,201-1,230/t); however, from mid-to-late October, raw material prices went up, so did production cost of silicomanganese, therefore producers slightly raised quotations, and the price recovered to a high level of RMB8,500-8,700/t (USD1,223-1,251/t).
In October, manganese ore prices showed an upward trend. Overseas mining companies raised quotations, so the importing cost of manganese ore increased; traders raised quotations accordingly, and the transactions improved. In addition, new capacity came into stream this month, so the demand for manganese ore increased.
