Prices for steel plate dropped nationwide during the month dragged by the dim market. The rigid demand from downstream industries remained insufficient due to the gloomy economy, and end users complained high purchasing costs but limited orders for finished products. Though traders were reluctant to cut prices seeing higher prices from mills, they had to move down prices slightly and slowly to promote sales. The quicken price decline in the last two weeks of the month following that in the steel futures market weakened market participants' confidence in the market prospect to a large extent. Considering the overall market inventory runs on a low level and purchasing cost from mills remains high, insiders foresee a slight price rebound in October.
