1. Market Highlights
Prices for section steel rose slightly in major Chinese domestic markets boosted by significant prices increases of steel billet as well as those in the steel futures market during the month, while the market performance continued to be unsatisfactory in the traditional off-season. On the one hand, the downstream demand shrank obviously influenced by the high temperature and continuous rains, while on the other hand, end users were reluctant to build inventories and only purchased according to urgent needs, for fear of a sudden price decline. Holding low inventories at hand, traders were eager to raise prices, despite the slow market. Insiders think the price for section steel is likely to rise in August.
