Steel mills in Xuzhou were still in production halt in June
. As central environmental protection inspection team reviewed ten provinces and the Blue Sky Protection Campaign started, most provinces faced heavy environmental protection pressure . The operation of blast furnaces and sintering work of steel mills were restricted; the demand for iron ore stood weak generally . Prices for domestic iron ore in North China stayed stable generally; and those in South China remained basically unchanged compared with that of last month . As for imported iron ore at ports, as the operating of blast furnaces and sintering work of steel mills were restricted, the demand for iron ore lumps and high-quality iron ore lumps increased while the supply at ports became tight, so prices for iron ore lumps and high-quality iron ore lumps went up this month . Meanwhile, prices for Australian iron ore fines remained stable with range oscillating owing to large stocks at ports and steel mills' stable purchase volume . From mid-June, prices for downstream steel product continued to move down, and prices for raw material such as iron ore lacked support . Insiders predicted that the demand for iron ore would still be weak in July with the normalized environmental protection pressure.
