1. Market Highlights
During early-to-mid this month, most market participants consecutively ended purchases of silicomanganese for April. Steel plants continued to restrict output of blast furnaces in North China, especially Hebei province, resulting in a slow-down in silicomanganese demand release and further decreasing prices based on low interests in purchases . From late April, silicomanganese prices started to move down and silicomanganese consumers pressed down prices with producers trying to slightly lower offers to promote sales to reduce losses. Up till late the month, prices for the material have slipped to RMB7,500-7,700/t (USD1,184-1,216/t) Inc-VAT EXW D/P, down by about RMB250/t (USD39.48/t) from RMB7,750-7,950/t (USD1,224-1,255/t) Inc-VAT D/P early this month. Later the month, the purchase price for May from steel plants declined by RMB400/t (USD63.16/t) from April and downstream consumers were in low interest . Spot prices for the material are expected to move down further in the coming two weeks.
This month, deals of manganese ore were sluggish and the spot prices continued to decline with slumping international prices and large stocks at ports.
