1. Market Highlights
Prices for steel plate rebounded nationwide during the month, mainly boosted by the overall low stockpile as well as short supply from mills. Markups in East and South China were obviously higher than those in North China. Facing heavy environmental protection pressures, most mills failed to operate steel plate production lines fully, leading to tight supplies. Meanwhile, the market performance improved with purchasing activities from end users increasing day by day boosted by low stockpiles. Believing the price is unreasonably high and worried about a sudden falling back, traders were eager to conclude deals to withdraw capitals. Insiders think the price for steel plate may keep going up in May, but the markup will be limited considering the current high basis.
