1. Market Highlights
Although prices for other major steel products such as HRC and rebar dropped by around RMB400/t (USD64/t) dragged by prices declines of raw materials as well as those in the steel futures market during the month, those for steel plate only witnessed a total markdown of within RMB100/t (USD16/t) supported by low stockpiles. Facing environmental protection pressures, most mills in North China failed to operate steel plate production lines fully, and thus the supply was tight, leading to the overall low stockpile. Therefore, traders were reluctant to cut prices obviously even facing limited sales volumes. Seeing sharp prices declines of other products, end users of steel plate were cautious about placing orders, and the market performed inactively. Insiders think the price for steel plate may stop going down in April.
