1. Market Highlights
Wire rod and rebar prices were narrowly relatively stable in China before the long holiday for the Chinese New Year, with participants leaving markets. In the late February, prices began to rebound after the holiday, supported by good news that some regions in North China will continue to take environmental protection inspection this year. Even though there was little buying activity as most downstream consumers did not return to markets after the holiday, traders preferred to lift prices actively, wishing a good start for the business this year. Prices of raw materials such as iron ore and coke kept rising, proving a firm support for steel' production cost. In addition, the demand for construction steels will become stronger in March, when it is warmer. Insiders suppose prices of wire rod and rebar will go up in the coming month.
