The rare earth prices fluctuated frequently this month, and consumers were active to purchase when the price increased in early this month. With few inventories from magnet plants and tight supply of rare earth concentrate, suppliers raised rare earth oxide prices in early this January, the rare earth oxides related with magnet industry moved up sharply, which resulting in actively purchases and increasing deals for around one week. However, affected by the relatively lower locked prices between major magnet producer and end users, magnet delayed purchasing on February 10, as well as lower quotations from both Northern Rare Earth Group and South Rare Earth. The prices slid then. However, China's MIIT held a conference on January 16, stressing to strengthen the management on rare earth industry in 2018, which enhanced insiders' confidence. As a result, the price revived up. In late January, most plants reduced or even ceased production for the Coming Spring Festival, which resulted in slow buying activities and relatively flat prices.
